Promissory Note

This has been prepared for notaries about the laws governing their duties and is not intended as legal advice. For additional information or for difficult situations, it may be advisable for you or your customer to seek the advice of a licensed attorney.

If a party who signed a promissory note decides to dispute the note in court, having the note notarized can help.

Notary publics serve an important role, which is to verify the identity of someone who signs an agreement and attesting to that person’s signature. If a party to a promissory note objects that he or she was not the person that signed the document, notarization can prove that this person was in fact the person who signed the contract.
